Quick answer
Usually No, Unless An Official Exception Applies
SNAP is mainly for food that a household can prepare and eat at home. That is why hot deli meals, hot rotisserie chicken, hot pizza, and other ready-to-eat hot foods are usually restricted at standard grocery checkout.
When Hot Food Rules Can Change
Disaster hot-food waivers
After some disasters, USDA may approve a temporary rule allowing hot food purchases in specific areas for a limited period.
Restaurant Meals Program
Some states allow certain eligible households to use EBT at approved restaurants. This is not the same as a general hot-food rule for everyone.
Cold prepared food
Cold prepared food intended to be taken home and eaten later may be allowed when the item is treated as grocery food.
Checkout systems
The register decides whether an item is coded as SNAP-eligible. Ask the store or check your receipt if an item is unexpectedly denied.
