California - CalFresh work requirement changes start June 1, 2026

California counties are notifying CalFresh recipients that beginning June 1, 2026, more adults classified as ABAWDs must meet work or community-engagement requirements to keep benefits beyond the time limit. The rule applies at application or renewal and may affect adults ages 18–64 who do not qualify for exemptions.

Maryland - EBT system transition may delay some May 17 benefits by a few hours

Maryland says May 16, 2026 is the last day to use the ConnectEBT site or app. Cardholders cannot change PINs or lock cards from 11:00 PM Friday, May 15 through 12:00 PM Sunday, May 17, and people who normally receive benefits on May 17 may see deposits delayed by a few hours. Beginning May 18, cardholders must use ebtEdge to manage benefits.

Colorado - SNAP beverage restrictions remain in effect during May and June

Colorado’s SNAP Healthy Choice Waiver began April 30, 2026 and continues during May and June. The waiver removes certain beverages, including soft drinks, from SNAP eligibility.

Texas - SNAP candy and sweetened-drink restrictions remain in effect during May and June

Texas SNAP purchase restrictions began April 1, 2026 and continue to affect May and June purchases. SNAP EBT can no longer be used to buy candy or sweetened drinks; USDA materials list Texas’s implementation date as April 1, 2026.

Florida - SNAP purchase restrictions remain in effect during May and June

Florida’s SNAP purchase restrictions began April 20, 2026 and continue to affect purchases during May and June. SNAP benefits can no longer be used for soda, energy drinks, candy, and ultra-processed shelf-stable prepared desserts.

District of Columbia - SNAP work-requirement screening starts June 1, 2026

DC DHS says SNAP ABAWD work-requirement implementation begins June 1, 2026. Starting then, applicants and people recertifying for SNAP will be screened to determine whether they must meet work requirements or qualify for an exemption; DC is also launching new screening and verification forms.

Connecticut - Summer EBT benefits expected in late June 2026; mailed cards may take weeks

Connecticut DSS says Summer EBT benefits are expected to be deposited in late June 2026. Families receiving mailed Summer EBT cards are warned that cards may take a few weeks to arrive because of the large number being printed.

Nebraska - Summer EBT issuances continue through May and June 2026

Nebraska DHHS lists Summer EBT benefit availability dates during the review window, including May 14, May 21, May 28, June 4, June 11, and June 18, 2026, for eligible students and approved applications.
