Iowa - SNAP and SUN Bucks purchases restored to federal SNAP rules; SUN Bucks applications close August 14

Iowa HHS says USDA directed the state to return to federal SNAP guidelines, meaning foods eligible before January 1, 2026, are allowed again. The same page states the 2026 SUN Bucks operational period ends August 14, 2026, and applications must be submitted by 4:30 p.m. CT that day.

Iowa - SNAP food restrictions reversed as of July 2, 2026

Iowa HHS posted an update on July 2, 2026 stating that USDA/FNA directed Iowa to return to federal SNAP guidelines. Food items that were eligible before January 1, 2026 are allowed again, and stores were instructed to make the changes as soon as possible.
