Missouri DSS says that starting October 1, 2026, SNAP applicants and participants will be asked for documented proof of certain household expenses and countable resources instead of relying only on self-attestation. The notice says complete documents can help prevent delays in processing applications or recertifications.
Missouri DSS announced that, effective October 1, 2026, SNAP applicants must provide documented proof for certain expenses and resources, including shelter costs, dependent care or childcare expenses, and countable resources. The change applies to initial applications, recertifications, and add-a-person requests submitted on or after October 1; the state says submitting complete documents promptly can help prevent processing delays.
Missouri DSS says its Healthy SNAP Initiative has an anticipated implementation date of October 1, 2026. If implemented, SNAP and SUN Bucks benefits would no longer be usable for certain items including candy, prepared desserts, soda, juice drinks, punch, tea, and some other beverages under the state’s proposed definitions.
Missouri DSS Healthy SNAP resources say the state requested classification of several foods and beverages as restricted SNAP foods, with definitions updated and approved by FNS on June 15, 2026. Listed excluded items include candy, pre-packaged ready-to-eat desserts, and certain beverages.
