Ohio’s planned SNAP restriction on certain sugary beverages, originally scheduled for October 1, 2026, has been put on hold at the request of USDA’s Food and Nutrition Administration. Ohio will pause implementation until it receives further federal guidance.
Ohio announced federal approval to prohibit carbonated sugary drink purchases through SNAP, with the change effective October 1, 2026. USDA’s waiver list also shows Ohio’s October 1, 2026 implementation date and describes the restriction as applying to sugar-sweetened beverages.
