National - Court ruling blocks SNAP candy and sugary-drink purchase restrictions in multiple states
A federal judge ruled that USDA could not approve state SNAP waivers restricting purchases of candy, soda, and other sugary drinks under the existing definition of “food.” The ruling affects restrictions already in place or planned in 23 states, including rules scheduled during July and August 2026.
