Montana - SNAP purchase restrictions begin September 30

Beginning September 30, 2026, Montana SNAP benefits may not be used to buy candy, high-sugar beverages, energy drinks, or shelf-stable prepared desserts. The state says some items remain SNAP-eligible, including plain or naturally flavored water, artificially sweetened beverages, drinks with more than 50% fruit or vegetable juice, milk and milk substitutes, coffee, tea, protein bars, meal replacement bars, certain fruit snacks, and store-made bakery items.
