Beginning November 1, 2026, expanded federal SNAP work requirements take effect for more recipients, including adults up to age 64 and some adults in households with children ages 14 to 17. Recipients who do not meet the requirements or qualify for an exemption may lose SNAP after the allowed time-limited period.
Forage reports scheduled state processor maintenance on October 27, 2026 from 07:00 to 13:00 UTC for AL, AS, GA, IA, IN, MS, MT, NJ, OH, OK, PA, SC, and UT. The notice says about 15 minutes of downtime is expected, which may briefly interrupt EBT SNAP or cash transaction authorization in affected states.
Montana says its Healthy SNAP Food Restriction Demonstration Waiver takes effect November 1, 2026. Beginning that date, SNAP EBT cards may no longer be used to buy candy, high-sugar beverages, energy drinks, or shelf-stable prepared desserts; the state says the waiver does not reduce monthly benefit amounts or change SNAP eligibility.

Montana generally follows the standard federal SNAP grocery rules.
USDA does not list Montana as operating the Restaurant Meals Program. Regular SNAP purchases generally cannot be used for restaurant meals unless a temporary disaster hot-food rule is active.
Cold deli food is usually allowed when it is meant to be eaten at home. Hot deli food is usually not allowed.
Check the label. Items with Nutrition Facts may be allowed. Items with Supplement Facts usually are not.
