SNAP participation has continued falling during July 2026 as expanded work requirements and other eligibility changes remain in effect, with food banks reporting increased pressure from households that have lost or reduced benefits.

Michigan generally follows the standard federal SNAP grocery rules.
Michigan participates in the Restaurant Meals Program, but only eligible households can use EBT at approved restaurants.
Cold deli food is usually allowed when it is meant to be eaten at home. Hot deli food is usually not allowed.
Check the label. Items with Nutrition Facts may be allowed. Items with Supplement Facts usually are not.
Hot food is usually not allowed unless a temporary disaster rule is active.
Most normal grocery food is allowed. Watch out for hot food, restaurant meals, supplements, non-food items, and any state-specific restrictions.

Michigan SNAP benefits are issued from the 3rd to the 21st. The deposit day is based on the last digit of the recipient ID number.
Michigan’s EBT contract requires monthly benefits to be in recipients’ accounts by 5:00 a.m. EST on the scheduled benefit availability day. Daily benefits received by 11:00 p.m. EST must be in clients’ accounts by 5:00 a.m. EST the next morning.
Common reasons include schedule timing, recertification, case changes, account issues, or state notices. This site cannot check your individual account.
Hot food is usually not allowed at normal checkout unless a temporary disaster rule or another official exception applies.
