Beginning November 1, 2026, expanded federal SNAP work requirements take effect for more recipients, including adults up to age 64 and some adults in households with children ages 14 to 17. Recipients who do not meet the requirements or qualify for an exemption may lose SNAP after the allowed time-limited period.
Forage reports scheduled state processor maintenance on October 27, 2026 from 07:00 to 13:00 UTC for AL, AS, GA, IA, IN, MS, MT, NJ, OH, OK, PA, SC, and UT. The notice says about 15 minutes of downtime is expected, which may briefly interrupt EBT SNAP or cash transaction authorization in affected states.
Indiana FSSA says that beginning November 23, 2026, SNAP benefits that are at least 274 days old, or about nine months, will be removed from EBT accounts regardless of whether the card has been used. Expunged benefits cannot be replaced.

Indiana follows federal SNAP grocery rules with USDA-approved state restrictions for some items.
Indiana has an approved SNAP Food Restriction Waiver that restricts purchase of soft drinks and candy. Retailer checkout systems and state guidance control the final result.
USDA does not list Indiana as operating the Restaurant Meals Program. Regular SNAP purchases generally cannot be used for restaurant meals unless a temporary disaster hot-food rule is active.
Cold deli food is usually allowed when it is meant to be eaten at home. Hot deli food is usually not allowed.
Check the label. Items with Nutrition Facts may be allowed. Items with Supplement Facts usually are not.

Most normal grocery food is allowed, but this state has USDA-approved restrictions for some items. Watch out for restricted drinks, candy or other listed items, hot food, restaurant meals, supplements, and non-food items.

Indiana’s official FSSA/Division of Family Resources EBT Policy Guide says recurring SNAP benefits are staggered from the 5th through the 23rd of the month by the first letter of the recipient’s last name, and that benefits “should be accessible by 6:00 a.m. on the benefit availability date.”
